"Ragon mein daudte firne ke hum nahi qayel" — Ghalib Shayari by Mirza Ghalib
Original Hindi / Urdu Verse
English Pronunciation / Transliteration
One of Ghalib's most audacious couplets, challenging the very definition of blood's purpose. He dismisses blood that merely circulates through veins as insufficient — true blood, he argues, must have the capacity to flow as tears from the eyes in moments of extreme emotional anguish. This hyperbolic demand is deeply rooted in the ghazal tradition of excessive emotional states, yet Ghalib elevates it to a philosophical proposition: that genuine feeling must find physical manifestation, and if blood cannot translate into tears of passion, its existence is meaningless. It is both a love poem and a statement about authentic emotional experience.
